The Empathy Programme is a term-long programme of films & lesson resources, enabling teachers to build the skill of empathy in 5-18 year olds.
There are 3 key elements to the programme: 1) Film-powered lessons (age differentiated) 2) Empathy Action Projects, enabling students to put their empathy skills into action outside of the classroom by creating a short film 3) Global Empathy Awards, allowing students to enter their film projects into our global competition.
Once payment for the programme has been confirmed you will be emailed a link to instantly download your resources.
We recommend that tutors, PSHE or class teachers deliver the lessons.
Heads of Year, Pastoral Leads or senior leaders should deliver the assemblies.
It's live now! You can download and use straight away in your school.
Our resources are designed for teachers by teachers. They have been carefully created so that any teacher can use them; we also provide outlines to accompany lessons and assemblies. That said, we are always here to help. If you have any questions please complete the contact form or reach out to sarah@empathystudios.com, who looks after School Engagement.
We also offer Empathy CPD training. This is a powerful launchpad for teachers to strengthen their understanding of our Empathy skills framework, backed by research with Cambridge University, and to build confidence before delivering The Empathy Programme for students. Click here to find out more.
Empathy is the skill that underpins all other crucial life skills - including leadership, creativity, problem solving, communication and resilience.
It can be practiced, taught and developed over time. Our 2022 pilot study with Cambridge University showed that after taking part in Empathy Week:
• Students were more responsive to the feelings of others and displayed increased emotional empathy.
• Students demonstrated signs of increased self-compassion.
• Students displayed a greater desire to connect with others.
Here’s some of the research we refer to and think you’ll find fascinating too:
• Empathy reduces cyberbullying
• Empathy increases creativity
• Empathy is essential for better workplace leadership
• Empathy (and compassion) plays a vital role in conflict resolution
